Steak! With the cost of beef it is becoming a rarer and rarer item on our table. Add to that the fact it isn’t She Who Must Be Obeyed’s favourite meat and I find it a real treat when we pick up a piece of steak. So, I fired up the Louisiana Grills Pellet Smoker and tried one of the seasonings I got from them, Smokey Sweet Spicy Hot Seasonings.
I did a very basic cook. I rubbed one side of the steak with a generous shake of the seasonings.
I preheated the grill to 550F and put the steak on seasoned side up.
I cooked it for about 4 minutes and flipped. I sprinkled more seasoning on the cooked side.
I cooked 4 minutes longer to an internal temperature of 135 F. I would cook rarer but She Who Must Be Obeyed isn’t into rare.
I let it rest for a few minutes.
We served it with steamed vegetables and garlic toast I prepared while the steak was resting.
The Verdict
I really like the way the pellet grill does the steak. I think it is moister and more tender than a regular barbecue grill.
I was a little worried about using this seasoning on beef due to the sweet component. I was totally wrong. It gave a nice balance to the spicy components. It didn’t overpower the beef but did enhance it with a nice smokey, spicy touch.
