I made Teriyaki Sauce for the third of the sauces I made for my community TV show. I love Teriyaki Sauce with its sweet, salty and sour notes. It goes well as a marinade for meat or fish and makes a great sauce on wings or burgers.
I mixed the following ingredients together in a small saucepan:
- 125 ml (1/2 cup) Soy Sauce
- 75 ml (1/3 cup) cooking sherry
- 50 ml (1/4 cup) vegetable oil
- 50 ml (1/4 cup) sugar
- 5 ml (1 teaspoon) garlic powder
- 5 ml (1 teaspoon) ground ginger
I heated it over medium high heat until it boiled. I mixed 10 ml (2 teaspoons) of cornstarch into 10 ml (2 teaspoons) cold water. I added this slurry to the boiling liquid and cooked until thickened and shiny.
I removed it from heat and let it cool.
The Verdict
This is one of my favourite sauces. I often change it up with honey or pineapple juice. Try it! It is easy to make and better than the store bought varieties.

This teriyaki sauce sounds delicious. Homemade is always better than anything you buy at the store. Sounds simple to make too, which I like.
It is a very simple teriyaki sauce that we love and make all the time. Thanks for your kind words!
