We were still on our trip in Vancouver and went down to Gastown because there are some good places for food and drink. We turned down a side street at random and found the Revel Room. Great piano playing and singing drew us in.
It is a cosy little place on two levels with a great décor and ambience. We took a seat at the bar and asked the mixologist, Carolyn, for a recommendation. She gave us a great list of innovative cocktails. Being a coward, I ordered an Old Fashioned. It was one of the best I’ve had.
As we sipped, she educated us on some unusual local liquors and suggested other drinks. I went on to a Gin Old Fashioned. So refreshing!
More drinks were being enjoyed when a server sat next to us with a bowl of their Gumbo. It smelled wonderful and had to be tried. It was delicious and I heartily recommend it.
Then, two musicians started playing. They were talented, fun and played requests. If we weren’t so old, we would have stayed all night. Every member of the staff was kind to two old guys and made us feel right at home although the rest of the crowd was definitely younger and more hip than us.
