My buddy came over and we continued our testing of classic cocktails. It was Manhattans this night.
The recipe for this cocktail is at the end of the post.
I put the whiskey, vermouth and bitters in a cocktail shaker that was 1/2 filled with ice.
Stir the cocktail until the shaker is very cold. Put a maraschino cherry in the bottom of a small highball glass and strain the cocktail over it.
The Verdict
This makes a very nice Manhattan. It isn’t my favourite cocktail. I don’t like the fruity notes of the vermouth in my whiskey but that is personal taste. I wouldn’t turn one down if I was offered one!
I have done a video on how to make this cocktail.

Love these! For some reason I feel like a real grown up (at 57 years young) with a Manhattan clinking in my hand, ha!
Well, they have been around since the mid 1800’s so our grandparents drank them. Also, they are not sweet like many current cocktails. Add to that you don’t look like you’re 57 and it all adds up!
Well done, and I see you used nothing but the best “Crown Royal” Now I’m going to have to go home and make one.

Thanks, Sam. I find with these whiskey based recipes you need to use a decent whiskey or they taste like you didn’t. Cheers!
Spounds tasty!
