I love honey mustard chicken wings. I also love Carolina Pulled Pork with mustard sauce. As usual, when I love two things that are even slightly related, something in my brain fires, my hands start to tremble, and I must start trying a new recipe. I simply had to make wings with a BBQ sauce flavoured with honey mustard. Thus, BBQ Honey Mustard Wings were born.
I started by coating giving a good layer of barbecue rub to sixteen chicken wing segments. I used my Chicken Rub but you can use any rub you like on poultry. Then I mixed up a sauce with the following ingredients:
- 40 ml (3 tbsp) honey
- 40 ml (3 tbsp) prepared mustard
- 15 ml (1 tbsp) barbecue sauce
- 5 ml (1 teaspoon) Buffalo wing sauce
- 2 ml (1/2 tsp) onion powder
- 2 ml (1/2 tsp) garlic powder
I preheated my Traeger Timberline smoker to 350 F (175 C). I put the wings in for 25 minutes.
I turned the wings and smoked for 25 minutes more. I brushed the wings with the sauce and cooked for 10 minutes longer. I brought the wings in and tossed them with the remaining sauce.
The Verdict
These were terrific! They had a nice chew and the sauce was sweet and savoury. It made a terrific combination of BBQ and Honey Mustard. Give it a try!
