If you’ve hung around my blog, you know I love smoked food. However, it can be difficult to cold smoke. How do you get a decent smoke without a lot of heat. Up till now I have been using my A-Maze-N Pellet Smoker. It has served me well. However, it has some limitations.
It is a little finicky to get lit, particularly in high altitude areas like Passing Wind Estates. Also, you can only use it at lower temperatures in your smoker. If you want to add more smoke to a higher heat cook, it just won’t do it.
The people at A-Maze-N products solved these problems with the A-Maze-N Tube smoker. It allows you to smoke at higher temperatures and I find it lights and burns with less effort than the pellet smoker.
In comparing the two, the tube smoker lit quickly and burnt well with a nice full clean smoke. The pellet smoker requires me to go through an exact light up procedure that can take a couple of lights to get a good burn.
The tube smoker gives more smoke which can be a good or bad thing depending on your tastes and what you are smoking.
If you are cold smoking, the tube smoker generates more heat than the pellet smoker. That being said, I have successfully used for cold smoking with good results.
My Louisiana Grills Pellet Grill gives less smoke flavour at higher temperatures and the tube smoker allows me to augment the smoke flavour. The pellet smoker won’t work in this application.
The tube smoker uses more pellets per hour of smoking than the pellet smoker but both aren’t pellet hogs.
I will continue to use the pellet smoker when I want long, lighter, cooler cold smokes for jobs like smoking cheese.
For the rest of my smoking, I am a convert to the tube smoker. Easy, effective, and flexible.
This is a great product if you are into smoking.
