Martinis are great but have you ever tried a Gibson Cocktail? It is a mixture of gin and vermouth just like a martini but instead of putting olives in it, you use cocktail onions. Sounds like very little change, right? Actually, the touch of sweet and sour from the pickled onions gives a mild but significant change to the cocktail. I actually prefer the onions. The Christmas entertaining season is here. I decided I needed a nice seasonal cocktail. The Aviation Santa Sighting is what I came up with. Continue reading Aviation Santa Sighting
In a previous post, I spoke about our Aviation Disaster, we ran out of Aviation Gin. My friend, Heather, had brought us some from the big city but it wasn’t available in our local liquor store. The search was on! Fortunately, the local BC Liquor Store manager ordered a case of Aviation gin so we could get some and now the store has it in stock. We were rescued. We had to come up with a cocktail to celebrate. Welcome to the Aviation Search and Rescue. Continue reading Aviation Search and Rescue
I loved lemonade when I was a kid. A friend’s mother used to make pink lemonade from real lemons. I don’t know the recipe but it was a real treat. We had enough Aviation gin left for one more cocktail. It was a wonderful warm day. It was time to experiment. Continue reading Aviation Wing Commander Collins
The last cocktail we made when Heather and Bill came over with the bottle of Aviation gin was one we made up by experimentation. We had to taste and try several variations until we came up with the one we really liked. Sigh, the things I do for you, my readers. Continue reading Aviation Wild Blue Yonder
As mentioned in my previous post, a friend brought me a bottle of Aviation Gin. I really like it to the point that I think is now my favourite gin.
The first cocktail we made with it is a classic gin cocktail, a Gimlet. Continue reading Aviation Gin Gimlet
We tried a recipe from the Aviation Gin site in a prior post. Unfortunately, we could not find Aviation Gin in the local liquor store. A friend was coming up from the big city and surprised me with a bottle of Aviation Gin.
I really liked it. It has a crisper, fresher taste than the other gins I have tried. Over the next few days we tried several great cocktails which you will see in subsequent posts. It was good times, good drinks and good gin.
The disaster? I am almost out of Aviation Gin and I still can’t get it here!

It was time to make another cocktail. We tried a French 75 which dates back to early 1900s in Paris. Apparently, it was called the French 75 in comparison to a 75 mm cannon. Sounds like my kind of drink! Continue reading French 75 Cocktail
