Is there anything better than those little squares we make for the holidays? I think not. Check out The Food Bloggers of Canada Holiday Bar & Square Round Up. It includes my post for Mincemeat Matrimonial Cake.

Old Fashioned Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
If you have been following this blog, you know I like molasses in my cookies. I also like oatmeal raisin cookies. I found this recipe on the Betty Crocker recipe site and had to give it a try because it has both. Continue reading Old Fashioned Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
Grandma’s Gingersnaps
I was going to a Toastmaster Meeting and it was my turn to bring a snack. I had been looking around the Crosby’s Molasses site and it got me thinking of the gingersnaps I used to have as a child. I was doomed. I had to have gingersnaps. Continue reading Grandma’s Gingersnaps
Molasses Oatmeal Cookies, Crosby’s Molasses
Sometimes I think our mountain home has properties similar to the Bermuda Triangle. The only difference is that ships and planes disappear in the Bermuda Triangle. Here, cookies disappear. Continue reading Molasses Oatmeal Cookies, Crosby’s Molasses
Jean’s Cheesies
This is one of those worn out recipe cards in our recipe box. She Who Must Be Obeyed makes these regularly. It is no surprise they are a favourite. They can be served as a cookie or an appetizer. The recipe has no added sugar but the sharp cheddar gives them a rich satisfying taste. Continue reading Jean’s Cheesies
Mincemeat Cookies
I often joke about She Who Must Be Obeyed. I should point out that she is:
- Beautiful
- Smart (way smarter than me)
- Very nice to me
- A great cook
She made me Mincemeat Cookies which proves the last two points. Continue reading Mincemeat Cookies
Mincemeat Matrimonial Bar
We made Green Tomato Mincemeat so we had to make something with it. She Who Must Be Obeyed made Mincemeat Matrimonial Bars. She must love me! Continue reading Mincemeat Matrimonial Bar
Rhubarb Haskap Cake
I have been growing haskap berries for a few years now. They are a hardy berry that is tarter than blueberries but have a nice fruit taste in baking. They are already ripe even here in the mountains. So I continue to experiment with them. I varied a recipe from Rogers Flour to use haskap and here it is! Continue reading Rhubarb Haskap Cake
Slow Cooker Stroganoff
Thanks to Noshing With The Nolands
An excellent blog, Noshing With the Nolands posted a recipe for Slow Cooker Stroganoff. I love stroganoff and I am lazy so I like slow cooker. I tried the recipe (with a few changes) and liked it. So here is my version. Continue reading Slow Cooker Stroganoff
Oatmeal Shortbread, A New Tradition
She Who Must Be Obeyed makes great shortbread. She always has. This year she tried a new recipe from Robin Hood. It is a winner.
The recipe is at:
The Verdict
These have the melt in the mouth texture of shortbread with the chew of a New Brunswick Oatcake. I love them. She Who Must Be Obeyed is complaining because she has just made the third batch of them. Apparently, I am eating them too quickly. Sigh, she is likely right this time.
I will continue to obey the missus just to get her to make these every year.
