Air Fried Dry Rub Wings

It is very cold here in the Canadian Rockies. Too cold to go outside to cook wings. I decided to try my first wings in the Air Fryer.

I thought an air fryer would be an effective way to dry rubbed wings. The hot temperature moving air should give a great skin.

Mix the following together for a dry rub:

  • 8 ml (1 1/2 tsp) garlic powder
  • 8 ml (1 1/2 tsp) chicken bouillon base
  • 5 ml (1 tsp) paprika
  • 5 ml (1 tsp) onion powder
  • 4 ml (3/4 tsp) brown sugar
  • 3 ml (1/2 tsp) black pepper
  • 2 ml (1/2 tsp) cayenne
  • 2 ml (1/2 tsp) dried oregano
  • 2 ml (1/2 tsp) chili powder
  • 2 ml (1/2 tsp) kosher salt

Sprinkle 1/2 the rub over 1 pound of chicken wing segments. Spray with baking spray.

Turn the segments and sprinkle the remaining rub over the segments. Spray with baking spray.

Preheat your air fryer to 360 F (180 C). Put the wings in the basket and cook for 20 to 25 minutes turning the wings once and spraying with baking spray. The 20 minutes is for smaller wings, the 25 minutes for larger. You are shooting for golden wings with an internal temperature of 170 F (77 C).

The Verdict

These have a great skin and a nice hot but not killing heat. They are terrific with some ranch dressing for dipping.
