She Who Must Be Obeyed and I both like a nice piece of wild salmon despite it costing more than ice in the dessert. So, when some wild sockeye steaks were put on sale, we bought them. The problem with salmon steaks are they have bones and the thin belly pieces are hard to eat between the bones and the skin. Continue reading Fancy Shmancy Salmon

Disco Balls
Watch what you ask for you may get it. I made this appetizer and it was delicious! However, I could not think of a name. I am a proud member of Smoking Meat Forums, a wonderful resource for information and ideas on smoking. I asked the kind members of the forum for help in naming the appetizer. A mini-poll took place and the name Disco Balls was chosen. You see, my handle on the forums is Disco. So despite the interesting name, welcome to a great appetizer, Disco Balls. Continue reading Disco Balls
Miniball Spaghetti
We needed a quick meal and I hadn’t had spaghetti in a while so it was obviously time. This necessitated a choice. Marinara sauce and meatballs or meat sauce? Why not something in between? I made a nice marinara sauce and cooked small meatballs in the sauce. Welcome to Miniball Spaghetti. Continue reading Miniball Spaghetti
Zucchini Mustard Relish
She Who Must Be Obeyed makes the best relish. We don’t buy relish in the store anymore as hers is so good. A second plus is that it is made with zucchini. As anyone who grows zucchini knows, it is a good thing to have another good zucchini recipe. Continue reading Zucchini Mustard Relish
Seafood Caesar Salad
A friend brought me some imitation crab pieces. I was leery but can’t bear the thought of wasting food. I like to consider myself thrifty. She Who Must Be Obeyed calls it cheap. Regardless, I made a nice Seafood Caesar. Continue reading Seafood Caesar Salad
Rufus Teague Whiskey Maple Ribs
In a prior post I tried Rufus Teague Whiskey Maple Barbecue Sauce as a mop at the end of a basic chicken thigh cook. As I said in that post, there are two tests for a barbecue sauce, a mop at the end of a cook and as a glaze that is cooked on. I made some basic smoked ribs in this cook to try the sauce as a glaze that is cooked on. Continue reading Rufus Teague Whiskey Maple Ribs
Growing Garlic
It is one of my favourite times of year, garlic harvest. I just love my home grown garlic. I will go through how I grow, harvest, cure and store my garlic in this post. Continue reading Growing Garlic
Meatloaf and Gravy
We have been harvesting our potatoes over the last couple of weeks. One of the ways we use them is to make Mashed Potato Casseroles and freeze them for use this winter. Continue reading Meatloaf and Gravy
Quick Breaded Halibut
In my prior post, I pointed out that She Who Must Be Obeyed wanted halibut and chicken wings for dinner. Here is how I did the Halibut. Continue reading Quick Breaded Halibut
“Plain” Wings
This was a tough cook. I told She Who Must Be Obeyed I’d make whatever she wanted. She said we had a small piece of halibut and a few chicken wing drumettes. She wanted both for supper. I asked if she meant wing appetizers and halibut for dinner. Nope, she wanted them together, sort of a cluck and surf I guess. Continue reading “Plain” Wings
