I love marinated beef. I love brochettes. I love grilling on my Weber Genesis Grill. It was a beautiful sunny day. Time for Steakhouse Beef Strips.
I started with two 5 ounce round steaks that had been cut about 3/4 of an inch thick. I cut a 1/4 inch strip off one edge without cutting it off and leaving 1/4 inch attached. I turned the steak and lengthened the strip by cutting 1/4 from the edge and keeping 1/4 inch attached. I continued rotating the steak until I had cut it into one long 1/4 inch thick strip.
I repeated this with the second steak.
I cut each strip into 4 so I had 8 strips about 6 inches long.
I put the beef strips in and tossed to coat. You can leave this in the sauce for two hours to overnight.
I took them out of the marinade and gave them a good shake of La Grille No Salt Added Steak Spice. You could use Montreal Steak Spice or any other variety you like.
I had soaked four 12 inch bamboo skewers in water. I wove two strips onto each skewer and then cut the skewer in half to make 8 six inch skewers.
I turned the Weber burners on high and let them preheat for 10 minutes.
I put the skewers on and cooked for three to four minutes, until the skewers were nicely browned on one side. I flipped them and cooked for three to four minutes to brown the other side.
We served the skewers with a nice pasta salad.
Although these are easy and quick, they have a great complex taste. The barbecue sauce gives sweet notes. The soy has an deep umami taste. The Worcestershire sauce and steak spice add just a touch of heat.

The Old Fat Guy
- 600 grams (10 ounces) steak (inside round, sirloin or tri-tip) cut 3/4 inch thick
- 25 ml (2 tablespoons) barbecue sauce
- 15 ml (1 tablespoon) soy sauce
- 10 ml (2 teaspoons) Worcestershire sauce
- 10 ml (2 teaspoons) steak spice
- Cut the steak into a long 1/4 inch thick strip by cutting in a reverse coil from the outside in.
- Cut the strips into 8 six inch lengths.
- Mix the barbecue sauce, soy and Worcestershire together in a bowl.
- Add the beef and toss.
- Marinade for 2 hours to overnight.
- Soak 4 twelve inch bamboo skewers in water for 1/2 hour.
- Remove the beef from the marinade and discard the marinade.
- Sprinkle the steak spice on the beef strips.
- Weave two strips onto each skewer.
- Cut the skewers in half to make 8 short beef skewers.
- Preheat a barbecue to high.
- Cook the strips 3 to 4 minutes a side until nicely browned and seared.
